I recently had some problems with xxxtool bar and huntbar invading my system
so I reinstalled my windows xp from scratch. Now when I try to reinstall my
nortons anti-virus program I get error messege saying "installation failed.".
Any suggestions?

go here and then support is the place to start

http://www.symantec.com/index.htm

You can once you get to the antivirus search for this file SymNRT.exe it
should be able to remove all the files for norton.

IMO Norton is doing you a huge favour, upgrade to a better AV - forget
Norton, there are plenty of better products around.
