I need anyones help, I just purchased a new Compaq Presario V2000 with
Windows XP Home edition. I had Norton Anti-Virus on it, but switched to
Macafee. Anyway my problem is that the windows keeps on shutting down
everytime I do something on the web, and I'm getting pissed off about it.
This is only about 1 1/2 weeks old. I also do not use the windows messaging,
and uninstalled it. It does have wireless internet. My hubby says that it
sounds like a software issue, but I don't know what it would be. I ran the
anti-virus and it didn't find anything. Any help would be appriated. Thank
you.

OK about that shutting down problem, first understand that it is caused when
windows xp has a fatal error.

To solve the problem of it shutting down automatically, click start, point
to My Computer and right-click it. Then click properties. Click the advanced
tab, and click the Settings button under Startup and Recovery. Uncheck
automatically restart under System Failure. Click OK twice.

This should prevent your computer from restarting when there is a fatal
error. Please reply with any symptoms that may and probably will occur when
you try doing something on the web.

So far so good. Thank you Jonathan. Althought I haven't been connected to a
plug for about 20 minutes and it hasn't shut down on me. Would that have
anything to do with it?? If it was a fulty AC Adapter??

Hopefully you uninstalled Norton from Control Panel>Add/remove Programs
before you installed McAfee.
Having both running has been an issue for several people I have assisted.

I doubt it was a faulty power cord but if you want to check if it was all you
need to do it wiggle the cord but i doubt it because most power cords are
made from thick wire and it would take some serious punishment to them to
make them not work like it should

Yes I did remove Norto and am only running McAfee. I know better than to run
two anti-virus programs at the same time. :-)
