PowerToys' Tweak UI |

I downloaded and installed the Windows XP Power Toy "Tweak UI." In Logon,
Repair, I clicked Repair Now for Rebuild Icons. Now, I have the ugliest
icons I've ever seen. Is there any way to get the old setting back? Thanks. |

I do not believe so! Unless you have taken a "registry backup", you may be
out of luck! This is one reason that the Powertoys arre un-supported by
Microsoft.

Right-click your desktop, and then click Properties. Click the Settings tab,
click Highest (32 bit) in the Color quality list, and then click Apply.
Click OK. If 32 bit is already selected, choose 16 bit, and then Apply. Then
revert back to 32 bit.
If that does not help, fix a registry value.
Open Registry Editor (regedit.exe) and navigate to the following key:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\WindowMetrics]
In the right-pane, double-click Shell Icon BPP and set it's value to 16
Close Registry Editor.
Restart Windows

I have a slightly different question about TweakUI.
On the screen common Dialogs/Places Bar: what is the "Places Bar"?
I am reluctant to do anything with that screen because I do not know what is
meant by "Places Bar". The help file in XP Home has nothing under that
title.

Places bar is the list of five locations that are displayed on the left
in a Common Dialogs window. You can customize this to show different
locations from the original five.
Btw, don't hijack someone else's thread. Better to post a new thread
with your question.

For Pro: Go to Start/Run and type in: gpedit.msc then navigate to:
User Configuration/Administrative Templates/Windows Components/ Windows
Explorer/Common Open File Dialog/Items Displayed in Places Bar.
Choose Enabled then paste or type the link to the folders that you want
listed.
Or...
Add Folders to the "Save As" Dialog (Places Bar) Line 118
