Hi Jonathan and the rest,
Ok I looked into my MSN problem. When I don't use the
wireless card I don't have the problem.
Let me remind you again of the details
-netgear home router with 2 computers and latest firmware
-computer 1 has XP pro (without sp2) and MSN 6.2 -
everything works fine always
-computer 2 (my laptop) has XP home (without sp2) and MSN
6.2 it works when i connect with ethernet cable, but when
i use the laptop's wireless adapter, i get problems. The
problems are of 2 kinds.
a)in msn, messages that people send me sometimes do not
arrive to me. Most of the time, it is a bunch of
consecutive messages. Also, i notice that (often or
always) i see "xyz is trying to send you a message" and
then it dissapears and then i dont get a msg. usually this
would mean that someone typed something and then deleted
all characters, but in my case, when i see that i usually
tell the person "hey did u just say something" and then it
turns out they did and i never got it.
b) the second symptom is frequent sign-off from MSN, if im
logged on 24 traight hours, it'll happen maybe 10 times.
what i tried that did not work:
-tried reformatting computer
-tried other versions of MSN
-tried with/without sp2
-tried creating a brand new hotmail account
what i tried that worked:
-as mentionned above what did work is when i stop using my
wireless card and i connect directly to the router.
ok. now i don't know what steps to take to further zero in
on the problem. let me point out once again that MSN is
the only symptom and everything else works wonders.
thanks,
Mike |

2 more questions -
a) UPNP is enabled in my router. i have time to live 4,
and advertisment time used to be 30min, i just change it
to 5 minutes. is that ok?
b)could this website's suggestion solve my problem?
it's in german but it shows that the guys is blocking msn
and setting up a proxy. i don't know much about that stuff
but..
