check in the task manager if any process is consuming whole of CPU.I had
issue with the MCAfee.
And also check the event viewer for red messages.this might provide us some
direction

i checked my event log, and i have only 1 error. the error has nothing to do
with the applications that i am using, the error is WIA(windows imaging
application) hangs up so i set it to manual instead of automatic. i hope that
helps if you have any other ideas please email me.
thanks

Very strong possibility that Norton 2005 is the underlying cause of
your problem.
Download the free version of AVG7 from www.grisoft.com. Uninstall
your Norton 2005 and install the AVG and see if that makes any
difference.
Good luck

Hi,
You can perform this step to confirm whether any third party program is
causing problem.
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;310353
Also, u can create a new user account to see if the user profile is corrupt.
Revert back for further instructions.
