I just bought a xp home ed OEM version. when i trying to install it, during
the very first stage of copying files to harddrive, it gives me error message
said that can not copy files. it let me hit enter to Retry,or Esc to skip the
file. It give me the error sometimes at 4%, sometimes other at other
percentage. it ask me to see if cd-rom is in---of course it is in, and when i
hit Enter, i will not continue, but when I hit Esc, copying continues until
next error message. The second type of copying error message is file is not
copied correctly, hit Enter to retry or Esc to skip, during this type of
error, when i hit Enter, i will continue to copy.
my system is asus p5p800,p43.0G,one 512mb ram(kinston valueram CAS3),. I've
tried to install it on both SATA harddrive(brandnew, never been used) and old
PATA harddrive. On both harddrive had copying problem.
i've also tried to disable the onboard sound card and LAN, and disconneted
all the other compoents. I've tried on 2 dvd-rom and 1 cd rom, same problem.
my computer is just one month new, it worked really fine with all the parts
before...please help me.

Hi Mate,

Sounds like either a faulty CD or CDRom drive. I'd try replacing the CDRom
drive and see if that works failing that take the Windows CD back to you
place of purchase and ask them to replace it.

Cheers

You may already have the answer as to why you are having the problems
installing Windows XP; however, for those looking for answers, the problem
may or may not be with the CD ROM drive or the disk. Many times files can
become corrupt in memory and write "bogus" information to the hard drive due
to bad RAM
\SOLUTION:

Look to the RAM - change-out RAM chips or try taking out all RAM and placing
in the system one at a time and try re-installing Windows. When the
installation completes, you will then isolate the bad RAM chip.
