Windows XP error message |
|
|
When attempting to install XP on my Win98SE computer I keep getting the error
message of certain file as follows: MCFC42.dll to C:\swin_nt$. The remainder
of the installation is then aborted . What is the problem or what am I doing
incorrectly. I tried installing from a clean disc. All help would be
appreciated.

If this is an upgrade install over 98SE, did you first check your system for
viruses and malware before attempting setup. Whether upgrade or clean
install, did you make sure to run the compatibility wizard before running
setup. If you did not run the wizard, return to your 98SE setup, while at
the 98SE desktop, place the XP CD in the drive, when the setup screen
appears, select "Check System Compatibility," the information in the report
it generates may give a clue as to the source of the issue.
