I have Windows XP Home Edition. My problem is I bought a couple of games for
my kids and an error message keeps appearing that I need to download them as
ms-dos. How do I do that in XP?

Before buying a game or any software, read the info on the box..
compatibility is a serious issue that is best addressed before paying
money..

First of all, a correction in your terminology.

You do not need to *download* these games. What you need to do is to
*install* them.

Downloading is the tranferring of a file or files from another
computer, most commonly another computer on the Internet, and saving
these these files onto your computer.

What exactly happens if you open a Command Prompt window in Windows XP
(Start - All Programs - Accessories - Command Prompt) and then attempt
to run the installation routine for these DOS games? Also what are
the names of these games? It is quite unusual to find DOS games on
the market today as it has been over 9 years since DOS was used as the
primary operating system for new computers.

Good luck
