Buddy, sometimes this group seems a little lame. I've posted perfectly
valid, on-topic, non-trivial, questions and they all ignore them or they say
,"Duh, why don't you google it? That's where all the answers are."

This response doesn't make any sense at all. KB has made three separate
posts asking for registry hacks to accomplish tasks that don't need
registry hacks. In all cases, he got an answer how to do what he wants.
In the case of this post - KB, you don't need to do a registry hack to
turn off Automatic Updates. Just go to Security Center and disable
them!
There is no sekrit conspiracy withholding registry hacks from the OP; he
doesn't need them for what he wants to do!

At least someone's being honest when they say something "don't make any
sense" to them. There's probably a lot of things that don't make sense to
this individual.

Maybe he wants to automate the applicatrion of there settings?
One of the downsides of the GUI is that the way to do things
interactively, no longer bears any relationship with the way to
automate the same changes. It's no longer a matter of typing the same
commands in Edit instead of Command.com, adding an @Echo Off on top,
and then saving as somename.BAT
I know of several fixes that I can only apply interactively - which is
a PITA, when building new PCs or retrofitting settings to a whole LAN
full of boxen - because I can't find the magic .REG

The reason I need registry hacks is because I am trying to program automated
tasks via a post installation script (simular to a unattended install),
therefore I don't want to use the gui. Sorry for the confusion...I should
have stated that in my post.
Can you help?

I don't know that particular .REG, but my approach would be:
1) Check out Kelly's site, it's full of magic bullets

2) Google e.g. disable update SP2 reg
3) Track the change using RegMon or similar
www.systeminternals.com has a utility that tracks registry changes in
real time. Filtering helps reduce the noise!

What I'd do is set things up so you can get to Regmon easily, and do
the GUI setting with as few clicks and keystrokes as possible. Start
recording in regmon, do the change you want, stop recording. Sift
through the barrage of registry changes ("a gnat has farted near your
computer...") to cull the magic .reg that will do what you want.
4) See if you can automate the GUI itself
This is an alternate approach; use some sort of macro recorder etc.
5) See whether other setup tools can help
Setup /? etc. for response file documentation, things like Group
Policy (unlikely if this is a systemwide thing), etc. SP2 itself has
deployment and other documentation; if it's new to SP2, it may well be
written up there, if not at one of the SP2 advice sites.
