XP without a User Account??? |
|
|
Having recently migrated from WIN98 to XP, I find it a real pain to
have to locate a file by typing \documents and
settings\username\(finally)filename instead of filename.
Is there a way to simplify (what a notion) this process? Like, what
would happen if in the registry one left DefaultUserName blank??? |

What are you trying to do? If you want to find a file, and you know the
name of the file, just type that into the file search window from
Start>Search.
Enable searching of all drive, files and folders, including hidden ones, and
Windows will find the file if it exists on your machine.

(this is a different kevin, the one who was talking about gnu stuff in other
posts during the last few hours and has a problem starting windows currently,
i'll try to change my name)
take a look at
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell
Folders. change at your own risk, something else probably WILL break or need
to be changed, and be sure the files also exist in the new spot.
Alternately, why not put the files you use directly in a different location,
like c:\files?
