Lost Personal Settings and Outlook Express Files |
|
|
Hello all out there,
My girlfriend was using her computer, turned it off, then came back 5
minutes later, and upon reboot, she lost all her personal settings, as well
as her outlook express files. I was able to recover all her files and
pictures, but I can't get her e-mails. I went looking in the appropriate
directory c:\Documents and Settings\Username\Local Settings\Application
Data\Identities, but the Identities file does not exist. I tried copying the
user profile, as well as doing a system restore, but not luck. Someone
please help me get her files back, as she has a lot of school correspondance
in these e-mails. She has definitely learned a lesson about backing up data.
The computer is running Windows XP Home Edition, SP2 installed.
Thanks, |

If it is not there, do you know for sure she was using Outlook Express and
not Outlook?
If so, search (start -> Search) for .pst files.
For Outlook Express files, search for.dbx files.
If one of these files turn out and shows a recent modified date,
right-click the file and select Open containing folder to make it easier to
retrieve and move around.
