I am thinking about getting a Digital Video Camera. But, on
my System, I only have USB.
Is it possible to buy a Digital Video Camera and hook it up
without any Firewire ports ?

Gary,
I have a Sony Vid Cam that has both Firewire and USB outputs. I have used it
on the USB side, just don't get all the function you do with a firewire
connection, such as using moviemaker for the play, fast forward rewind
controls, you have to reach over and manually do it on the vid cam itself.

Given the very low cost of Firewire cards ($15.00-$30.00 Australian)
and the added control - unless your system is limited and a firewire
card cannot be added - USB transfer capability would be one of my
last criteria for selecting a digital camera.

The Sony cameras are great by the way, but in the end I opted for a
Canon MV700i.......because the features I required were low and Total
Cost Of Ownership was very important (ie including added batteries,
rechargers and carry bags (Canon Australia had a special deal - so my
circumstances should not be taken as a guide to the lowest cost
camera)

Key criteria I had were:
--Cost
--Acceptable quality picture on a normal TV (not hard for any of the
digitals)
--Higher quality movies (out of my league)
--good Zoom
--Ease of Use (as measured by my partner)
--Length of available film time in the standard package
--Ability to recharge spare batteries while the camera is in use
(within the cost)
Oh and did I mention cost

My lower criteria were:
Still Frames Quality - I would have liked the 1024x768 of the next
model up as it would have allowed for 5x4 snaps on the one unit
Low Light Operation
Camera mounted light

Others may wish to advise their criteria.
