It shows all installed programs now - instead of ones i use often

Can anyone tell me about the registry key which controls 'pesonalised
menus' in xp home

right click Start>Properties>Start Menu

Classic Start menu>customize
check Use Personalized Menus

This takes a long, long time to begin to work
