missing video controller in device manager after sp2 upgrade |
|
|
The video controller device in device manager which was present in sp1 build
is now missing after I upgraded to sp2 and rebuilt the upgraded configuration.
I've tried importing various registries, add new hardware device, change the
Nvidia component's default resolution, and etc. The video controller (vga
compatible) is where I am able to upgrade my video driver to Nvidia Geforce4
420 Go. To do so, I'd select the video controller component, tell it that I
knew what I wanted (instead of auto search), select display adaptor, and then
select the GeForce4 420 Go (which was installed as a component but post-fba
lists vgasave as the display driver). I also tried adding in the Windows
Update for Device Drivers component but I was already able to click through
to "add hardware", just no drivers for Display adaptor are found. Also, I
noticed that this adds a handful of other components and we're working on
cutting down the image size.
Please, any help is greatly appreciated. I've run out of ways I know of to
approach this but suspect that some knowledge of PnP and device drivers might
be helpful in narrowing the problem. Thanks. |

F Wang,
After you have the proper display driver in your image and ran thgough FBA, can you post the \Windows\FBA\FBLog.txt and
\Windows\SetupApi.log files here? (as attachment or a link to a website where you have the files on)

F Wang,
Do you have "PNP (User-mode)" and "Intel Processor to AGP Controller" components?
Also, did you componentize the video driver yourself? I saw some missing Intel AGP Controller driver.
("Intel(R) 82855PM Processor to AGP Controller - 3341" is not enabled in your image)
You can download the driver from http://support.intel.com/support/graphics/index.htm.
(or maybe this one: ftp://aiedownload.intel.com/df-support/7373/a08/win2k_xp142.exe but you should check)

KM,
Adding "Intel Processor to AGP Controller" and "Intel(R) 82855PM
Processor to AGP Controller" fixed it. "PNP (User-mode)" was already
included. I'm now able to update in the same manner as before with SP1
through the Device Manager and VGA controller device. It still doesn't
boot up as a default but I can live with that.
Thank You! Hope you have a Happy Holiday Season. You just made my
holidays very happy indeed.
