I'm trying to add a printer to my XPe image. I'm using the Add
Hardware Wizard to add the printer and I'm receiving the following
error: "An error occurred during the installation of this device. The
system cannot find the path specified." I've added the Server Printing
and Client Printing components along with all the dependencies. Below
is the contents of the setupapi.log file. Please advise.

You can try:
- Coping printer driver files directly to appropriate windows directories manually, reboot and check if the driver was installed
propely.
- Check if "Class Installer - Printers" and "Class Install Library - Printui" components are in your image.
- Check if you have printer driver's help files

I have the components Class Installer - Printers and Class Install
Library - Printui added. The printer driver help files are not added.
I will add them. Why do I need the help files? Some of the files that
I need for the driver are not in the windows/i386 directory.

Hi tp,

Search in setupapi.log for "SPFILENOTIFY_NEEDMEDIA" and you will see files that are missing in your image during the PnP phase.

In case that certain hlp files are needed by some inf file during installation if you do not have them it can prevent driver from
installing. (This is a way how things work).
You can either delete them later or change inf file so it does not need hlp files :-(

If you have added MS files make sure that you use right components from TD that will bright these files without the need for doing
this manualy. (This will make sure that you have right components in your project).
Also in TD you can configure it to copy hlp files.

Regarding the error.
Who reports it?
Also can you post us setupapi.log here?

The installation wizard is reporting the error. Where I should see a
Successful setup installation screen, I getting that error instead.

It is hard to tell why Class installer reports that error.

But first, could you add the HLP file to your build, re-deploy the image and if the error is still there post the updated
SetupApi.log?

Btw, do you use SP1 or SP2?

Hi Tabitha,

Unfortunately it appears as if these files are not componentized in XPe SP1 :-(
File binaries are present in repository and you can make your component that will copy these files if you need them. (Or for test
you can put them manually in pre FBA image)

The files are there (SP1 and SP2). Add "IIS Core Libraries" and "IIS Documentation" components.

Please be aware that the file names listed in the components do not have IIS_ prefix (that is why you could not find them with TD
Filters). But the Src Name field of the files is set properly.

This bring us to missing feature for search trough source file names. (Someone should ask MS for it) Although I know what I was
looking for and it was "IIS_startsrv.vbs" these file names were required according to Tabitha's log. to be present during the FBA or
some other install phase.

Adding components that you sugested might help but I'm little confused here about who do installation of these files and where
source file names are written.
