Going from XP to win2k |

have spare PC running XP and want to install win2k. I put the CD in but I
get an error that says "this CD-ROM is from an older version of windows than
the one you are presently using. Setup finctionality from this disk will be
disabled"
How do I get past that to do the upgrade???????????????

You don't, that would be a downgrade and there is no downgrade path from
Windows XP to Windows 2000.
If you want Windows 2000 installed, you will need to install Windows 2000 on
its' own partition or on the current partition losing all data.

It's not an upgrade; it's a "downgrade," if anything.
There is no "rollback" to Win2K. To replace WinXP with an earlier
OS, you'll have to boot from the appropriate boot disk, format the
hard drive, and install. There is no supported downgrade path or
technique.
Simply boot from the Win2K installation CD. You'll be offered the
opportunity to delete, create, and/or format the system partition as
part of the installation process. (You may need to re-arrange the
order of boot devices in the PC's BIOS to boot from the CD.)

You may be better off asking in a Windows 2000 newsgroup.
IIRC, you simply boot to the Windows 2000 CD.
Follow the prompts.
If it asks to delete partitions, you should as this will delete all current
installations and data and prepare the hard drive for a fresh installation
of Windows 2000.
But the Windows 2000 newsgroup is the best source of information:
