"The line is busy" for some numbers |
|
|
Hi,
My fax service (winxp, sp2) works selectively, for most numbers it does
work, but for some, not. When a phone number fails, it's a complete failure.
It never works. The response I keep getting is "The line is busy". I dialed
manually to the failed numbers, and they seem to be perfect.
I ran a search for this problem on the net, and found that such failures
happen, since the xp fax service is incompatible with some, unspecified, fax
machines.
Is this true? Is there a way to solve this problem?
Ran
p.s. I've installed an alternative fax program, but the problem stayed.
Looks like replace the program isn't going to solve my problem.

Only by enabling PSS and debug logging of the transmissions.

Choose a more compatible format for your FAX, i.e., CCITT 1. Also, add two
commas to the beginning of the phone numbers you dial. (They add 2 seconds
wait time to the dialing.)
courtney sends....

If area and country codes are involved, a delay between the country code,
area code, and the number may be needed.
In some cases, the "wait for carrier" modem setting may need to be increased.
Finally, there is also a modem setting to increase the wait time before
disconnect due to loss of carrier.
Methods used to set these values and make them "stick" can vary with the
modem and fax software.
