yet another error....
The file D:\ed sharpe robin dave mcpherson emotion council speech.mpg cannot
be imported because the codec required to play the file is not installed on
your computer. If you have already tried to download and install the codec,
close and restart Windows Movie Maker, and then try to import the file
again.

Hi Ed,
Movie Maker can't work with the MPEG-2 files you are trying to use.... you
should convert the files to AVI files first.
See the Importing Source Files > Video > MPEG-2 page of my site.

I used mpeg-1 and it seemed to work this time....
when I had tried the avi format I believe I did have problems...
I will look at your pages and see what I can learn
