Machine Type: IBM Thinkpad T42
OS Ver: XP Pro SP3

Issue: If the scroll bar is present in any application window sometimes it will default to a position (either all the way to the top or all the way to the bottom of the window) and will not let the user move the bar. If this happens in an Excel file, for example, it will continue to scroll down to the last available row of cells that Excel 2003 can render. The only quick solution I've found so far is to log the user off and then back on. That seems to relieve the issue for some time before it happens again.

At first, I thought the problem was a stuck "Page Down" key, but then I was told that it also defaults to the top, so it's not likely that the "Page Down" and "Page Up" keys are both stuck unless a soda was spilled in that panel of keys or something. I'm going to replace the keyboard, but in the event that replacing the keyboard doesn't solve the problem can anyone provide a possible software fix?

I've read that an outdated/incorrect graphics or mouse driver can cause problems, but I set this machine up myself and verified that all drivers were up to date before assigning it to the user. In addition, she is using a generic USB attached mouse, not the Synaptics Touchpad.
