I have had this issue reappear after many reinstalls. It seems to be domain user related, as I can sign-in to my local admin account, and the desktop loads immediately.

However, after an update, or piece of software, my domain login (more-so when I'm not connected to the network) will sometimes take 5 or more minutes to load desktop. In the most recent case, it would sit their on my dektop wallpaper, no start tool bar or anything else, and when it went into system standby due to my power settings, I would wake it, and the desktop would immediately show/load then. It's like it's already loaded, but a service or driver has it blocked and the standby releases the block (maybe file lock?).

Has anyone else heard of this or experienced it? I've done tons of research but it's hard to find out this particular issue's solution. I did a system restore this morning and it's working, but I'm also at work, so I haven't tested at home while off the network...

Thanks.
