I accedently dowloaded windows xp the wrong way and then I decided to download it again to try and fix it. But that just made a new copy of xp. I want to keep the new copy and delete the old copy. The new copy appears first on the boot list.

I've tried formatting. THe Format it's self wouldn't work. ANd I don't know if that would be the solution any way.

I've tried going to command prompt and typing in bootcfg/delte/ID2
but that didn't work either.
Help?
Please and thank you

This can be a simple problem or a complicated one.

Are you sure that there are really 2 XP's installed, or is the single installation only listed twice? Do the 2 versions differ, or do both choices on the boot menu bring you to the same installation? Do you have 2 Windows folders (one may be called "Windows.000" or something similar)?

If there are in fact 2 installations within the same partition, they may be inextricably intertwined. You would be better off formatting and installing a fresh copy than trying to remove one of them. You can do this by booting from the XP CD and formatting during setup when the opportunity presents itself.

If you simply have the same installation listed twice, go to the System applet in Control Panel, Advanced, Startup Settings, Edit, and remove one of the listings.
