SP2 with no internet |
| Ok, so I have a computer with WinXp Pro but no internet connection. I downloaded the sp2 redist packate and moved it over on my jump drive, but it wouldn't let me install it. So, I copied the i386 folder to my C:\ drive, and integrated sp2 into the setup. So now I run it and try to do a upgrade and it tells me my cd key is invalid. I tried the cd key from my other copy of windows xp pro (the one I downloaded it from) and it wouldn't work with that either. Please help! E-Mail or post suggestions |

| When you get sp2 from microsoft.com opeating system verification goes underway (makes usre you don't have a fake/copied windows version) and i believe that's kindof a cd key inbedded to only your system so it only works on the one you've downloaded it from. You can buy SP2 from computer stores or even walmart, but it may be just buying a new windows os with sp2 in it. And i was just wondering, why are you installing sp2 on a computer with no access to the internet, i mean the only threat there-off would any thing that sp2 would fix like system stability or spyware or other junk from a cd or jumpdrive. |

Here's Why |
| I'm installing SP2 on a computer without internet access because it is required by some programs to run or even install. I don't really need the security from it, and if there's a way to work without it then that's cool too |

| Yeah, i've had alot fo problems running older porgrams on XP, but i just looked trough google groups' under the programs name and xp and i'll usally find some kind of patch/hack that will allow it to run. And if it's possible to get internet access from another computer downloading updates to a jumpdrive or burning them to a cd/dvd might get some porgrams to run on xp sp1. |

That's What I've Been Trying To Do |
| I Tried that, I was downloading the updates to a jump drive. But it's not old programs, it's new ones, well, more utilities, they say "This programs requires Service Pack 2 to install correctly" or something to that extent. It's really irritating. It may also be my windows installer, it won't work and I haven't been able to fix it either, but usually when I try those (msi files) the first time after a restart the windows installer dialog box flashes for a second, and then it just doesn't do anything, under any user, in any mode. Thease say flat out that they require sp2 (well one's sp1). I'd just reinstall xp, but I have programs that I don't have the CD for, one costing $875.00 so I can't do a rebuild Grrr. |
