The problem started in this order
1.) I wanted to add another hard drive as a slave, but had problems. Seems the slave drive is dead.
I took an older Seagate IDE that came from a computer that the power supply burnt up on...try to add it to a system with the same specs, but had no luck from jumper configs to drivers and bios settings. Yes I download all the docs concerning the drives, bios, etc. Read them but still no solution.
2.) Decided that I should leave it be for the moment and change my system back the way it was with one drive. That's where all the problems started.
After setting my system back to the way it was...I could not reboot without getting to the startup screen and freezing. I played with the jumper setting , cable on my hard drive, double and triple checked the bios settings...and after 2 hours of on and off chair play....I was able to get it booted up to safe mode. Yes, I did have a startup disk, but it ended up being a bad floppy ( so much for good deals on floppies...lesson learned!
3.) I check everything I could with system tools , logs etc to check for the problem...no luck.
I decided to recover back a day before the issue started. Great! or so I thought.
When the system booted up it was showing two windows os choices...??????? So I went into boot.ini and found an extra line dupicated, save that file and made a new one with the extra line deleted.
Fine except that it still shows a windows xp line and default windows line....I left that alone for now, since I'm not skilled with understanding anything that well with thius type of stuff, but have to learn sometime,
Here is how the boot.ini is reading now

The only thing I change was the duplicate last line from [operating systems]
4.) The system seems to be running normally for now but the CD rom drive and DVD rom drive are missing from the system.....Bios has them listed from setting it at Auto...they light up on the boot up ....
I've checked the driver, search for drivers...etc...it doesn't show anything missing, but doesn't show the DVD or CD neither.

I tried using a reg fix that I download for missing cd and dvd drives...but that didn't work
Now I've decided to stop and seek help from someone that knows what they're doing.
Sorry for the long write up, but I wanted to be a thorough as possible.
