I have a good handle on the recording rates for standard definition settings
of fair, good, better and best. How does this work with an OTA HDTV tuner in
MCE. What are the files size rates (GB per hour) and can you select
different settings like with the analog tuners?

OTA HDTV broadcasts have a practical ceiling on the bitrate of
~18Mb/s. Broadcasters are obligated to "fill that pipe", so
some may use lower bitrates.

MCE does not re-encode the MPEG-2 video stream from a digital
tuner, so you can't select different quality settings like you
can with an analog tuner.

The file size is mainly a function of the transmission format and
compression. I find that CBS typically takes 6.9gb per hour and NBC slightly
less. Both of these stations broadcast at 1080i. Fox and ABC take about 5
gb per hour and broadcast at 720p.

I have not found any control over recording quality for HDTV.
