Free Space Error, reports only 1% |
|
|
The properties of the C:\ drive (80 GB) shows that the Used Space is
75,059,306,496 bytes (69.9 GB) and the Free Space is only 876,445,696 bytes
(835 MB). I have checked, recorded and added up the size of all folders
including hidden folders & files and I only get about 9.695 GB. My question
is why the big difference and how do I fix it. There should be 60 to 70 GB of
Free Space. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.... Thanks. |

Hi GreenieLeBrun, thanks again. I found the solution. It was the IBM Rescue
and Recovery application. It was scheduled to make a backup every week and I
deleted the backups which gave me back 61 GB. I have now configured this
application to turn scheduled backups off. I have 86% Free Space now. Boy am
I happy.....

Thanks for the reply GreenieLeBrun. Yes, I have run the Error-checking Tool.
I have also ran a "chkdsk /f" which I believe is the same thing. Any other
suggestions?
Could be corruption on the drive (MBR, Partition table, File Allocation
Table or NTFS equivalent) or the drive is faulty, I can't really say.
Personally I would save all my data to CDs or something similar then do
a reinstall deleting the partition and reformatting the drive and see
if that solves the problem, drastic I know, but at least your data
would be safe if it is a faulty drive.

Have you tried running the error checking tool on the disk? (My
Computer, right click on the drive, Tools, Error-checking
