When I import an AVI file into WMM it previews fine, but after placed in the
timeline the audio is distorted. Could be upper harmonic distortion. I have
tried AVI files from two different cameras and have tryed two different
computers and they both have this problem with AVI on WMM. When I edit the
AVI files using the software that came with my camera, there is no
distortion. Any ideas on how to fix this on WMM?

It's a symptom of codec related issues... converting the file to another AVI
before importing is probably needed. See the Importing Source Files > Video
