I'm running XP Home on my PC for a couple of years without problem. I've just
tried to switch on and got a message to boot from CD. Have put CD in drive
and it gets as far as Windows Set Up screen with message "Set up is starting
Windows". The PC then just hangs. Any ideas please?

You may have either one or two of this problems
OS is corrupted
RAM is defected causing it to freeze
