Replacing a fan - CPU problem |
|
|
Hi,
I had a previous post about my CPU problem. I definitely think that there
is something wrong with the fan (or over-heating) - it has since become
louder than ever. How do I determine which fan is causing the problem, or
what the exact problem is? Someone (Richard) responded with a post as what
might be causing the problem with the fan. Should I just take the PC to a
tech shop and have them fix it (I'm not very good with hardware)? If I
don't do it soon, will I fry my CPU?
I know that was a lot of questions, thanks for your time.

Just remove the cover and power up the system. If one of the fans is noisy
you should be able to determine which one when the case is removed.
All of them are usable replaceable.

Yes, taking it to the shop would be wise in this case.

£20 for a checkover by a store... Money well spent - I did this with a
lock-up problem; turned out it was teh AGP port on the mobo they sold me, so
they replaced it with no charges at all.
Anyway, remove the case, see what's what with the power on.
Do you have adequate ventilation in the case? E.g. fan sucking in bottom
front, plus a fan or two blowing OUT at the top of the case to the rear? If
so, maybe you need to add some paste between the CPU and the heatsink to
improve heat transfer. |
