I just had a client call and say his workstations are "acting
strangely". If they are set to DHCP they are getting assigned different
subnets so they can't communicate. If IP and subnet is entered manually
everything is okay.

What might be causing the subnet assignment to change? They are using a
router as the DHCP server with Windows workstations, a few Mac's and an
HP color printer with a JetDirect card. I'm thinking it might be the HP
card but wanted to get a little more input before going over to check it
out.

Thanks,

Terry,

Have your client run "ipconfig /all" from various computers, and look at "DHCP
Server". I'll bet he'll see a different DHCP server identified, for each subnet
being assigned.

There might be a rogue DHCP server (e.g. unauthorized broadband router
or ICS host) on the network.
