media centre test kit 3 |
|
|
On one of my mce 2005 systems (hp 7170n) It states Initail mpeg2 audio
decoder is compatable then the next line says it fails requirments, this is
just the audio part not video...also my modem fails cant support caller ID
(this i dont mind as i dont use it)...funny though how they can sell you a pc
as a mce2005 when it dont meet the requirments...or am I wrong in
this.....opps there i go again...question was is it a problem not meeting the
requirments for audio even though its compatable...thanks |

I've heard of others posting the same results but it apparently doesn't
matter to Media Center. I have no idea why it matters to the diagnostic
kit...

Re: media centre test kit 3 |

I had the same issue, and I had Power DVD 5 installed. (With Dolby, Dts,
Etc.) I ran the diag. and it sayed the same thing....
I was reading through some other forums and I found an audio/video codec
from Nvida that is suppose to be made for XPMCE 2005. It comes with a 30 day
free trial...
Anyhow, long story short. I installed it, and my diag. cleared up. and my
movies actually decode all the dolby pro logic, through the Optical SPDIF on
my mother board.
Try downloading this codec...
Look at this site
http://www.nvidia.com/object/mce_extensions.html
and download these drivers

As I recall, this was the case for me, as well. But the Decoder Checkup utility reports both the old and new NVidia decoder as compatible.

According to the Utility description it does not run any tests it only
checks to see if a Registry entry(which does not appear to be MCE release
dependent) is set to say if a decoder is MCE compatible and does not say how
the flag gets set. I suspect that the flag is set by the decoder
manufacturers installation script and that never gets changed. For example
until this summer I still had the old NVIDIA NVDVD decoder and the utility
stated that it and the newer NVIDA DVD DECODER were both conpatible. I
beleive the older NVDVD Decoder is not comptible with MCE 2005 and the
registry was set when I installed NVDVD was installed back in MCE 2002 days.
For this reason I do not put total faith in the output from the Utility.
Please let me know if you agree with this hypothesis or ot.
