Anyone install the .net upgrade? Notice anything good or bad with MCE 2005?

I think you still need Net framework 1.1 for MCE 2005

So infact 2.0 doesn't overwrite/update any 1.1 componenets/ libraries then?

Then why do I need .net 2.0 framework? I'm not a developer and afaik, MCE is
the only .net app I have.

problems that they were resolved by installing 2.0.
Is it possible that a lower level dll that resolved the RU2 problem and
was part of 1.1 SP1 is backward compatible with all versions and therfore
only one copy is installed and used by all versions it( or a new also
backward compatible version of it) is also part of 2.0?

In the future more apps will be compiled in .NET 2.0 eventually you'll need
to have it installed. If it's offered on Windows Update I'd suggest just
having it installed. On the other hand if you're rather not, there's no need
to.

2.0 and 1.1 are installed side by side to verify this bring up a command
prompt and run " reg query hklm\software\microsoft\asp.net ". It should
report 1.1.4322 and 2.0.50727.0. Also check out
C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework. As you can see things are kept separate.
So the short answer to your questions is that yes, installing 2.0 doesn't
overwrite/update any of the 1.1 stuff. If it did something funky might
happen to programs that specifically needed 1.1, depending on how it was
programmed of course.

Thank you for the link, that explains it. What I was not aware of was the
last step at the bottom of the BLOG if you use .NET2 to fix the problem.
