I had a message that automatic updates were ready to install. However, the
installation failed with a message: "Updates were unable to be successfully
installed" There was also a list of the updates with the message.

I have a similar, and I am sure, related problem with software installation.
Installation will proceed normally but before installation is complete the
installer will disappear. I have had this experience with a couple of
software products including iTunes and an update for a spyware protection
package.

Any thoughts,
