Hi All,

I would like to set up a wireless network consisting of my 2 desktop
computers and my laptop. I have bought a Netgear DG834G 54Mbps Wireless ADSL
Modem Firewall Router and a Netgear WG111 Wireless 54Mbps USB 2.0 Adapter.
The laptop has wireless capabilities. The router will be connected to my main
computer and the adapter to the secondary computer.

I am completely ignorant when it comes to setting up networks and would be
most obliged if someone could provide very explicit and clear instructions on
how to do this.

Many thanks for your time and patience.

Martin,

For an introductory article on networking in general, see my article.

For a good article on configuring WiFi, see Microsoft's Cable Guy.

Use the main computer to configure the router (always configure your WiFi router
thru an Ethernet connection). Once the router is properly configured for
wireless, get either the secondary computer or the laptop connected. Once any
computer is connected wirelessly, Windows Networking and file sharing is the
same with a WiFi LAN as with an Ethernet LAN. Then get the third computer
connected. Test each WiFi computer with the main computer.

You can get Windows Networking and file sharing advice here. For wireless
issues, you'll be better off in microsoft.public.windows.networking.wireless, or
in the BBR WiFi Forum.
