I have install the receiver and uninstalled it several times now. Each time
I find new hardware I get 3 HID-Complient devices found and it installs the
drivers only to tell me that there was a problem with the driver and device
that was installed. In the device manager I see 3 unknown devices listed
under the Hunman Interface Devices with yellow exclamation marks beside
them. The remote will works somewhat. The directional arrows, ok button and
the number pad on the remore does not work. Everything else on the media
center works perfectly.

Are there firmware or driver updates I can download and install?

Any help with this problem would be appriciated.

This sould work

1. Obtain a copy of the irbus.sys, hidir.sys,irbus.inf, and irbus.pnf files
from a MCE 2005 disc I do not sure 1 or 2

2. Plug in your remote sensor.

3. Uninstall any drivers that may be associated with your remote control via
device manager.

4. Unplug your remote sensor.

5. Reboot.

6. Copy irbus.sys and hidir.sys to c:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers and
c:\WINDOWS\Driver Cache\i386

7. Copy irbus.inf and irbus.pnf to c:\WINDOWS\inf

8. Reboot

9. Plug in your remote sensor.

10. The remote sensor should now be recognized properly from a driver
perspective the MCE remote control setup wizard will now at least see the
remote. However, the remote will not work -- MCE doesn't actually receive
button presses.

11. Windows Update. Install the critical update that should now be available
for the remote control software.

12. Reboot.

13. Start MCE. Run remote setup wizard. Everything should work now.

Truth be told, the HID-compliant device entries don't use those three files.

Did you disable the HID Input Service by any chance? If so, it should not
be stopped (it should be set to start up automatically)

irbus.pnf would not be found anywhere (i'd be generated from the inf file
when it is called during setup by Windows).

Ok I tried the files and update thing and still have the same problem. In
the device manager I have the folloing devices installed properly under the
Human Interfaces Devices section
- HID-Compliant Consumer Control Device
- HID-Compliant Devices
- HID-Compliant Devices
- HID-Compliant Devices
- Microsoft eHome Infrared Transmitter

The folloing are listed in the same area with yellow exclamation marks and
when the drivers were being installed it said there was a problem with the
driver install.
- unknown device
- unknown device
- unknown device

I don't know if this is all the information you need to help. The Microsoft
remote does work except for the directional arrows, the OK button and the
number pad section. Also in the Media center setup the remote does not get
listed and I cant configure it.

Where would I check to see if the service is enabled or disabled?

I went into the TV config in Media Center and it cannot detect the IR Device
at all. I also have removed the drivers for the Human Interface Devices and
the USB Hubs rebooted the computer. When it can back up the USB hubs were
reinstalled (no errors with any device in the device manage at this point).
I rebooted again and then pluged in the Microsoft Receiver 1.0a and the
device was detected and installed all the drivers successfully except it
insists on installing an additional 3 HID-Compatible devices which don't
work and when you look at the properties of the device it says the drivers
were not installed.

I hope this helps to get closer to a solution.
