how can i record (not with a camera) what i do on windows xp pro?

You an use the screen capture feature in Windows Media Encoder.

thx Bob, this works great but say i had to email the file wouldn't it be a
large file, espcially in a network that has a 8mb limit on emails.....thx for
the help.

Yes, video files tend to be large. You can experiment with
ways to reduce the file size, but your quality will suffer.

Instead of capturing the full screen, you can capture only
a window, or region of the screen. You can also choose one
of three quality settings. The lower the quality, the smaller
the file.
