SImple networking with 2 XP PCs and router |

Hi,
This issue appears a lot in forums but I never seem to find the answer! I
have 2 PCs running XP, connected to Belkin 4 port router, whcih in turn
connects to cable modem for broadband internet. Both PCs can access the
internet with no problems, however, I cannot enbale file sharing between the
PCs. I have run the Networking Wizard, and set up unique names for each of
the computers, and a workgroup (the same on both PCs!). I have enbaled
sharing on relevant folders but the sharing does not work. I have tried using
ping to test basic connectivity, and this works OK from both PCs to the
router, and from PC A to PC B, but NOT from PC B to PC A. This is what I find
so wierd, and I assume is the root of my problem. My difficulty is working
out why I can ping from A to B, but not from B to A.
Any suggestions?

check the firewall on A to se that B is "trusted."

I am having exactly the same problem except I have three computers networked
I will call them A, B, and C. A is the host and can talk back and forth with
B no problem. C can talk to A or B with no problem, but neither A or B can
talk with C. I have set, reset, checked double checked every setting in
every area and I am at a total loss for now. Any who can help it would be
greatly appreciated. I have heard from a pretty reliable source that this is
a problem in Windows XP, but I cannot find anything in the knowledge base to
help me. Jestes

Your problem may appear to be similar in nature to Robin's. In reality, these
problems though similar can have many different causes. It would be to your
advantage, seriously, to start a new thread, and describe the problem on its
own.

Robin,
Your problem is pretty common, but it can start from a number of causes.
Diagnose it, then fix it. Start with my initial troubleshooting guide.

Thanks for the suggestion, but... how do I do that? I have fired up the
Firewall manager and I don;t see an option to do this. I see three tabs:
General - switches the firewall on, off or ebales/disables exceptions.
Exceptions - allows specific applications access
Advanced - covers NW COnnections sewttings, Security Logging, ICMP and
Default Settings.
I can't see anywhere how I can make 'B' trusted, or even see 'B'.

Jim,
Apologies if appear dumb, but.. the exceptions tab (that I can see) allows
exceptions for specific applications - I can't see anything that would allow
me to configure a PC a an exception.
Note, I am using XP Home Edition, SP2.
