Hello Jason
I am confused :) :)
You said “NET Framework 2.0 does NOT replace .NET Framework 1.1.
You still need .net Framework 1.1 and .net Framework 1.1 SP1 to use MCE2005
with UR2.”
What is UR2 and do I need to install NET Framework 2.0?
Thanks

Yes you certainly should be sure that you have latest MCE drivers for
your Tuner card and here are few other iteas.
You may be suffering from the RU2 .NET 1.1 problem so I suggest that you
downlaod and install the recently relased.NET2 from the following link.

There is also an 81.87 Beta driver but I did not see anything in its release
notes of any MCE fixes since 81.85.
Can you record a program and play it with either MCE oe Media Player?

Hello Gary
This morning I went back and reread your suggestions, noting I had missed
some of them last night.
I already had the NVIDA dvd decoder 1/02-185 installed prior to your
sugestion and have now just downloaded the VIA chipset Hyperionpro v504a.zip
and ran the update. Rebooted and started Media Center
Tested Live TV and the system froze again after about 5 minutes.
Powered down the system by switching off the power as nothing responds as
usual. Rebooted the system and it sat idle with just Media center running
for about 10 minutes waiting for me to start Live TV while I was busy doing
something else. When I attempted to start Live TV the system was frozen,
that’s a first. Nothing will respond so had to shut down the power again and
rebooted. Started Media Center and then Live TV. It has been running for
about 15 minutes now but unfortunate I have to leave for an appointment. I
will leave it running and when I get back I will let everyone know what
happens either way, good or not so good. :) :)
Thanks again to everyone for all their suggestions it may be running better

Thanks

Hello Jason
Bad news my system still freezes it had froze when I got back and I tested
it 2 more times --- wishful thinking --- it ran about 5 minutes the 2 last
times.
I have been going through the to do list (all good ideas) that everyone has
come up with and I think I have checked everything.
The BIIOS is already the most current 6A6LYA1GC-20 DATED 10-5-2005
The TV card has the most current driver the one that 2.9 generates. Version
2.0.35.23258 9/15/2005
Thanks again, wish I had better news
I appreciate all the help

Hello Gary
This morning I went back and reread your suggestions, noting I had missed
some of them last night.
I already had the NVIDA dvd decoder 1/02-185 installed prior to your
sugestion and have now just downloaded the VIA chipset Hyperionpro
v504a.zip
and ran the update. Rebooted and started Media Center
Tested Live TV and the system froze again after about 5 minutes.
Powered down the system by switching off the power as nothing responds as
usual. Rebooted the system and it sat idle with just Media center running
for about 10 minutes waiting for me to start Live TV while I was busy
doing
something else. When I attempted to start Live TV the system was frozen,
that's a first. Nothing will respond so had to shut down the power again
and
rebooted. Started Media Center and then Live TV. It has been running for
about 15 minutes now but unfortunate I have to leave for an appointment.
I
will leave it running and when I get back I will let everyone know what
happens either way, good or not so good. :) :)
Thanks again to everyone for all their suggestions it may be running
better

It is 81.25 and it is available here -
http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_81.85.html (81.25 actually supports
more hardware than the 77.79 version you are mentioning)
You can get to this link by going to Nvidia.com
Then hit the drivers link
Then select Graphics Driver, GeForce and TNT 2, Windows XP/2000.
This will lead you to the 81.25 version and this is the one you ought to
be
using.
Also make sure you've installed the newest NVidia codec which my brother
mentioned earlier in the thread
It is available here

Other things to try
- Update your bios (it appears this is the latest for your motherboard -

Dennis,
I have the same problem as you and many others. I have tried everything to
correct this problem. There are many people with this same problem.
Sometimes I get over an hour of live tv before it freezes on me. I have the
same video card as you, and have concluded from other posts that this is an
NVIDIA Video card problem. I do not believe that the fx5700 VE is 100%
compatible with MCE.....well at least the VE version.
If you install an old NVIDIA driver then you will see that you will be able
to watch tv for longer periods before the freeze happens. I guarantee you
that if you change your video card you will correct the problem.
Do not bother going thru the stress of figuring out this BS problem with the
drivers. GET A NEW VIDEO CARD AND YOU WILL CORRECT THE PROBLEM.
hope this puts an end to this frustrating problem.

Re: Live TV Freezes Media Center |

Hello Nyalb and everyone else
Nyalb, thanks for the suggestion and advice. Buying a new card is in the
realm of possibilities but this seemed like such a nice video card. :) :)
What TV card are you now using and have you found a video card that works
reliably? Better yet, has anyone else found a TV & Video card combination
they are really happy with? I wanted to have a dual analog tuner and digital
HDTV capable system. I am the president of a computer club and I thought I
would demonstrate my Media Center at a club meeting one day, right now it
looks like there going to get a good laugh at my expense. Actually I have
not given up yet on making this combination work but unfortunately I am also
guessing the other helpful people are running out of suggestions as their
many helpful ideas have slowed and I may now be on my own. No mater what I
appreciate all the help from everyone and I will certainly share and post my
final fix --- “this is what works for me or some slightly used parts for
sale”. I still wonder if there is some test software out there that will
help isolate the problem?
Thanks
Dennis
