Remote support (internet) |
|
|
Hello. (my english is not good)
I'm a programmer having several software customers. I need a method to give
them assistance remotely using internet. I'm using VNC on dial-up
connections. It functions, but when they have a router (LAN), i cannot
connect (the IP is not reached).
How can I resolve this ?
Thanks a lot. |

Well, VNC uses TCP Port 5900 (and TCP Port 5800 if you use the Java viewer).
Your customers would need to open the appropriate port on their
firewall/router.
http://www.realvnc.com/faq.html#firewall
I also recommend running VNC through a VPN or Secure Shell (SSH) tunnel
because the native VNC data stream is *NOT* encrypted. An alternative is to
use UltraVNC with its encryption plug-in.

Go to the ultraforge website and then to add-ons. Check out the
"single click" option, I have used this with great success. Then you
need not worry about ports, routers, etc as it is a reverse connection.
You just set up a web site with a link they can click on and a request
will be put through to you.
