Using an older version of Yahoo! Instant Messenger will be annoying to the
other people and you won't be able to use a lot of the other features. Any
time they try to send you a file, talk to you, etc they will be given a
message saying that the application you're using is older and not compatable
with the version they are using. What I'd recommend is that you follow
standard process and download the entire setup file (you will need to root
about online to find the URL for the entire thing) and install it while not
connected to the internet, with your antivirus disabled, and without
anything else running in the background to ensure that it's given as much of
a chance to install as possible. Sometimes you can have problems installing
it if you're using an older version of the Macromedia Flash Player -
consider updating that as well.
