Upgrade help |
|
|
Hi guys. I want to upgrade my system to make a VERY good gaming machine.
My guess is that I will have to upgrade my
Graphics card (nVida geforce4 mx 420 64mb)
Memory (256DDR)
Processor (Pent 4 1.8 Ghz)
Motherboard
I think (I could be wrong) that those are the most important aspects.
All my hardware is listed below. Basically what I’m asking is if
upgrade all the components I listed above, will they work correctly
with the other components such as hard drive, nic, etc ( I was under
the impression these had no baring on your gaming power.
Hard Drive (normal 40gb) (only going to be playing a couple games so
size doesn’t matter)
Nic (Standard 10/100bms card)
Sound card (santa cruz)
Cd-Rw drive
Please keep in mind I’m just wanting a great gaming machine. If I were
to upgrade to 2gbs of ram…. A nvida 6600 series card…. New motherboard…
and 3.0 or higher processor would all the new components run well with
the hard drive, etc. Or do I need to upgrade them aswell? Thanks

Newer games often come on DVD.....
40gb doesn't last long these days... I'd go bigger.
Better games need better soundcard and high end speakers to get the whole
effect

Also change:
Sound card (Check with Creative Labs -- Audigy or newer)
DVD RW (not a CD-RW) --- newer games are coming out on DVDs.

Well i have a friend of mine having nearly the same specs that you own,
but his board have SATA controller built-in(have option). He do only
upgrading ATA100(40GB)7200 to SATA(80GB)7200RPM and found a noticeable
performance increase. Try to think SATA then..and use your ATA drive as
your Back-UP storage. For more info about SATA try to Google(ing) the
benifit of this Technology you may find it useful. Goodluck.
