My photos look pretty insipid on my 50' HD TV. Is there any way to create
HD versions of DVDs?

My HD, I assume you mean 16:9 ror 16:10 ratio and minimum of 1280x720.
PapaJohn's site has some tutorials on creating custom profiles:

Go to the Photo Story 3 section - Saving to get the profiles you want and to
learn how to create your own.
