I have an Epson RX500 all in one printer. It had been fine for about two
years. Then I decided to switch my anti-spyware program to Webroot's
SpySweeper. At that point a problem began. For no apparent reason, if I
left the computer on for any length of time, the computer no longer
recognized the printer. I the printer and faxes icon of the control panel,
the printer would be grayed out. I could not even switch the printer off; I
had to unplug it. Once plugged back in and switched on, the computer would
recognize it again until the above problem would reoccur.

The following facts may be pertinent:

Firewall: ZoneAlarm Pro version 6.0667
Anti-Virus: Norton Anti-Virus 2005

I used to use Computer Associates E-Pest Patrol, and this problem never
happened.

Actions so far:

Updated printer drivers. I have removed them and reinstalled them 6 times.
I have not done any registry edits, and I think that the problem may lie here.

Uninstalled Webroot SpySweeper. The problem still continues.

What I don't understand is why the computer would loose a USB connection
without any type of error message.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

They were set to turn themselves off. I have unchecked the turn off to save
power box, and I will see what happens. Thank you.
