Just a few questions about Windows Messenger. I only used Messenger once a
couple of years ago to receive a text file from my son's PC. I have never
upgraded , it's version 4.7.3001

Do I need to upgrade my Messenger program? If so, do I need uninstall the
version I have and then install the new version or can I just install over
the old version?

I wish to receive a file from Lithuania., can this be done? Does the sender
need a hotmail account?

You don't NEED to upgrade, however, the newer version of MSN Messenger have

many features that could be diserable depending on your needs. If you intend
to use Messenger solely for personal use, go-ahead and get the newest version.

This is really your choice. I like to keep my computer tidy so I choose to

uninstall the standard Messenger which can be found under Add/Remove
Programs|Windows Components|Windows Messenger. However, the newer versions
of MSN Messenger should replace all legacy versions automatically. Your
choice.

In all reality, you should be able to recieve files from anywhere. The only

thing limiting this would be any firewalls\blockers that either the sender or
reciever computers could be running. Get the latest version of Messenger and
give-it a shot.
