How to enter a specific IRQ for a device!? |

Hi,
First of all I'm not sure this is the right NG. If not, please direct me
to
the right one.
On my system(see below) I would like to assign different IRQ to the
onboard
Gigabit LAN and my display adapter, since they at present share the same
IRQ. Normally that is not a problem, but after my DSL line was upgraded
from
256Kbit to 1024Kbit, the mouse seems to move somewhat erratic. My guess is
that since the display adapter and Gigabit LAN share the same IRQ, a
fairly
heavy load on the Gigabit when downloading a large file or opening several
internet pages, will result in this erratic mouse behaveiour since the
display adapter then is also under a heavy load!
But, how do I enter a specific IRQ for the Gigabit adapter?
Display adapter: ATI 9600 Pro - 128MB
MB: MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum (MS-7025)
OS: Win Xp US
RAM: 1024MB

The current versions of Windows don't allow *users* to change
IRQ assigment of most devices.
The reasoning is that well-designed mobos and devices must behave
well with automatic settings - even if several devices share one IRQ.
IMHO I don't believe that your problem can be fixed by reassinging IRQs.
I would look at CPU usage counters by interrupt, DPCs.
Also, check if display driver update is available.

On board items IRQ's can usually be changed in the BIOS, get your manual for the board to help you
through the steps to get into BIOS settings and then what settings are available to you.

This is not that easy (even if the BIOS has such option).
You still need to convince Windows to honor BIOS assignments ... a lot of hassle
that (again) may be not at all helpful for OP's issue.

After a lot of hassle I've given up. What a wonderful OS XP is!
I must admit it runs perfectly but don't even think about doing something
out of the ordinary.
