Hi,

I have a HP psc 1205 USB All-in-1 printer/copier/scanner. When I try and
print, the job appears in the printer job queue but then a pop-up box
appears with the title "System Error" and the message "The document cannot
be printed due to a system error. Try printing again. If unsuccessful,
restart Windows and try printing again.". After a while the pop-up box
disappears and the job disappears from the queue. The printer head moves
briefly after the box disappears, but no print is produced.

I have tried deleting the printer and uninstalling the software, and
reinstalling, but it does not fix the problem. This is a new problem as the
printer has worked fine for months. However, I'm not sure what has changed
on the system to cause this. The system specs are:

Windows XP Professional version 2002 & SP2

1GB memory

AMD Athlon 64 FX-55

400Gb disk drive (300Gb free)

Latest drivers for psc 1205 downloaded from HP

Using the HP Printer Toolbox, I ran the test to 'Clean the Print Cartridges'
and this produced a printed test page. If I run the 'Print a Test Page' job
this produces the 'System Error' message.

Any ideas on what I can do next to fix the problem?

Thanks for your help,

E

Hello - could someone please respond to this? There is no information on the
System Error message in microsoft.com or HP.

Has no-one else ever had this error?

Regards,

This is not a message from the print spooler in XP. It either is coming
from the driver or from the USB subsystem.

do you have any HPUSB*.sys files on the system?

Hi Alan,

Thank you for your reply. There are no HPUSB*files on the system. But
before we draw conclusions from that, I did a search on a different system
with a HP psc 1210 printer (slightly newer model) and there are no HPUSB*.sys
files on this system either, and this one works!

I searched from the c: directory downwards, including sub-folders and hidden
folders and files, using accounts with Computer Administrator privileges.

Is there anything else I can check?

Regards,

Andy W
